A Community Choir

Updated: Feb 4

Real community spirit with a truly professional sound

In the heart of the Isle of Wight, the Medina Community Choir is fostering a real sense of community spirit while delivering a truly professional sound. Founded in 2006 by director Hannah Brear, the choir has grown from its roots at Medina High School to become an inclusive and acclaimed ensemble that welcomes over 100 regular members of all ages and backgrounds.

What sets Medina Community Choir apart is its commitment to inclusivity. Unlike traditional choirs, there are no auditions for entry, and the membership is open to everyone. Breaking the stereotype that one needs to read music to participate, the choir proudly boasts a diverse group of members, many of whom don't read music. This not only dispels the myth but also showcases the incredible music that can be created when a community comes together with a shared passion.

Initially formed for students and parents of Medina High School, the choir has since evolved into a whole-island sensation. Its popularity has soared, attracting individuals from various walks of life who share a common love for music and community. Under Hannah Brear's guidance, the choir has grown into a powerful testament to the idea that music transcends barriers and brings people together.

Beyond the impressive musical output, the Medina Community Choir embodies the true spirit of community. Members forge connections, build friendships, and create an environment where everyone feels welcome. It's not just about singing; it's about the shared experience, the joy of creating beautiful music, and the support of a tight-knit community.

While the choir embraces individuals with diverse musical backgrounds, there is no compromise on the professionalism of the sound they produce. Under Hannah Brear's skilled direction, the choir achieves a level of musical excellence that resonates not only within the Isle of Wight but also garners acclaim beyond its shores.
